Citizens Advice

The Citizens Advice consumer service provides free, confidential and impartial advice on consumer issues.

Visit the Citizens Advice website or call the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.

Citizens Advice consumer service can:

  • help you sort out a problem or disagreement with a trader
  • tell you what your rights as a consumer are
  • provide pre-shopping advice before you buy goods or services
  • provide general advice on how to avoid unscrupulous traders or 'cowboys'
  • explain consumer-related issues such as warranties, credit, internet shopping, refunds and replacements.
  • provide advice on avoiding trading scams. You can also report any scams you have experienced.

If necessary, Citizens Advice will refer your complaint to us so that we can investigate breaches of criminal legislation. Please note that we cannot assist in individual disputes with traders.

European Consumer Centre for Services (ECCS)

The ECCS provides general information on consumer laws and rights when you are thinking of buying a service from another EU member state. They can answer many of the questions you may have and help you choose the correct service and the correct service provider. The ECCS also provide details of organisations that can give practical assistance in the case of a dispute.

They can be contacted on 0845 608 94 94 (Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm). Alternatively you can visit their website at www.ukecc-services.net or email eccs@tsi.org.uk
