- We will arrange to talk to the adult at risk as soon as possible.
- If they have difficulty with decision-making, we might consult a relative, carer, or friend on their behalf.
- We can also arrange an independent advocate who will represent the adult’s views and wishes.
- If a crime has been committed, the police will be contacted so the adult can press charges if they choose to.
- We will coordinate an enquiry.
Then we will agree a plan to protect and support the adult which will depend on their views and wishes. This might include:
- making different arrangements for their care and support
- helping them end or manage their relationship with the person who has caused them harm
- sometimes the person who has caused the abuse or neglect has support needs which will need to be assessed
