Notice of delay in the publication of audited statement of accounts for year ended 31 March 2023
The accounts and audit regulations 2015
The external audit of the draft statement of accounts for the year ended 31 March 2023 has not yet been completed by our external auditors, EY LLP, due to the complex set of factors contributing to audit delays across the sector. This situation is allowed for by Regulation 10, paragraph (2a) of the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015. (See attached link: The Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015 (legislation.gov.uk)). Therefore, this notification explains, as per paragraph (2a), that we are not yet able to publish our audited 2022/23 final statement of accounts in line with deadline of 30 September 2023, as per paragraph (1). The Standards & General Purposes Committee will consider the results of the 2022/23 audit, after which we will publish the final audited accounts.
We will publish the audited accounts as soon as the audit is concluded, and Audit Report issued.

The unaudited Merton Council Statement of Accounts for Financial Year 2022/23 and Merton and Sutton Joint Cemetery Board (MSJCB) were published on 31 May 2023 in accordance with the statutory deadline for publication.
There is a 30-working days public inspection period from 1 June 2023 to 12 July 2023. The date for publishing 2022-23 audited Statement of Accounts is estimated to be 30 September 2023. The statement reports the council’s annual financial position, consolidating assets, liabilities, expenditure and income for all its services.
