Coronavirus - updates to Terms and Conditions

  • The Coronavirus pandemic has not ended and the virus is still present in the population. It may be necessary to cancel and/or reschedule appointments and ceremonies at short notices due to changes in government restriction, or the need for our staff to self-isolate.
  • By booking at this time you agree that you understand and accept the risk of late notice cancellations or rescheduling.
  • The maximum number of guests that the room you have booked can accommodate is stated in the booking letter you will receive. However due to the current emergency the number of guests may be varied without warning due to government guidance and guidance from Public Health England.
  • The minimum number of guests that will be allowed at a ceremony is two witnesses.
  • No refunds will be offered to customers who are subject to restrictions in the number of guests due to pandemic.
  • There will be no right to reschedule due to guest or other pandemic restrictions, the normal rescheduling fees and polices will be in operation.
  • Guests who are not exempt from wearing a face covering will be denied access to Morden Park House while Government advice requires the wearing of face coverings.
  • Merton Registration service will not provide face coverings to guests during the pandemic.
  • At the recommendation/instruction of the Government enhancements to ceremonies above the statutory minimum may be removed at any time without notice.
  • Please be advised that following the Prime minister's announcement on 19th December 2020 Greater London has entered 'stay at home' (tier 4) COVID alert status, marriage and civil partnership ceremonies unfortunately cannot proceed until further notice.

Wedding bookings

Please be advised that for all new ceremony bookings we will only be able to book dates from May 2021.

From the 12th April, if the country moves to Step 2 on the Road Map, our rooms will have the following capacities:

The Sheridan Room4 guests
The Lord Nelson Room5 guests

Number of guests at other licensed venues in Merton

Following the Prime minister's announcement (Monday 22nd February): until the 12th April at the earliest,  the maximum of guests permitted at licensed venues in Merton will be 4.

From the 12th April, if the country moves to Step 2 on the Road Map, the maximum of guests permitted at licensed venues in Merton will be 13 and subject to the discretion of the venue additional professional persons (such as photographers) provided they maintain social distancing at all times. Whilst all guests are required to wear masks, at the discretion of the venue, guests attending a ceremony from the same household do not have to observe social distancing but all households need to observe 2 metre social distancing from each other. This decision has been made because our outside venues have more time to create seating arrangements compared with Morden Park House.

Duration of restrictions

These limits will be in force until further notice. The key reason for restricting numbers is to minimise the risk of infection to our staff and so our ability to operate the service.

Further changes to the ceremony

The government has instructed registrar to reduce the length of marriage ceremonies, this is to reduce the chance of infection.

Therefore there will not be able to offer

  • Separate pre-ceremony interviews for the bride and groom
  • Walk-ins to the room
  • Music
  • Readings during the ceremony

Each ceremony will be a simple legal ceremony.

Cost of ceremonies

All ceremonies will be charged at the standard rate for the room.

Days that we offer appointments to get married on

Weddings at Morden Park House will initially be available Thursday - Sunday only. We have decided to limit the days we offer weddings to Thursday-Sunday only. This is to allow us to more safely manage the numbers of customers in the building. If your wedding is booked for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday unfortunately we will need to reschedule your wedding to an alternative day.

Extra guests outside

Only the maximum number of guest can be admitted to the house and the courtyard. If more guests want to meet you in the public park after the ceremony that is fine, however, we ask that guests observe the 'rule of 6' at all times. Please be respectful of other couples and the need to socially distance.

Live streaming the ceremony

One of your witnesses is welcome to stream the ceremony and make use of the guest Wi-Fi. You will need to provide your own equipment.

Photography

We need to minimise contact between couples and our staff therefore we cannot allow our staff to handle your phones and cameras. You are welcome to take your own photographs but you are limited to the number of attendees for the room and this cannot be exceeded. Please note that photographers will have to remain stationary during the ceremony and cannot move around the rooms.

Making sure you are safe to marry at Morden Park House

We have implemented a strict one way system through the building and have limited the amount of people allowed in the building at a time. The registrars will also disinfect surfaces in between appointments and weddings.
