The Prime Minister announced on 23 June 2020 that marriages and civil partnerships can begin again.

We will be able to take new ceremony bookings from 6th July 2020. Should you already have a ceremony booked this year affected by the pandemic or  have postponed your ceremony we will contact you before then.

Our first day of ceremonies will be 11th July 2020.

We have published answers to frequently answered questions below.

Bookings for marriages and civil partnerships can be made up to two years in advance. To secure the date and time you require you can either book in person or telephone Merton Register Office at Morden Park House.

Ceremony reopening Summer 2020 FAQs

Q: When can we book a wedding?
A: We have had to cancel a large number of couples weddings, these couples will be given an opportunity to rebook before we begin taking new bookings up until 6th July 2020.

Q: How many guests can we have at our wedding?
A: Guests are strictly limited to the two witnesses, as such both must be able to speak and understand English and preferably over the age of 18

Q: How long will we be limited to two guests?
A: The guest limit will remain in place until at least 1st September.

Q: The government have said we can have 30 guests why are you only allowing two?
A: The government has set a maximum in England, to manage the risk to our staff we have decided initially to only allow smaller weddings.
If we allowed weddings with 30 guest this would mean our staff being in contact with 240 guests each day we conducted weddings. This greatly increase their risk of infection. We also have to consider that if one of those 240 guests becomes infected our staff would have to self-isolate, this would mean cancelling other couples ceremonies.

Q. How much will ceremonies cost?

A: All ceremonies until further notice will be charged at the Sheridan Room rate.

Q: What days will we be able to get married on?
A: Weddings at Morden Park House will initially be available Thursday-Sunday only.

Q: My wedding is booked for a Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday what will happen?
A: Unfortunately we will need to reschedule your wedding to a day when we are able to offer weddings.

Q: Why does my wedding need to be rescheduled?
A: We have decided to limit the days we offer weddings to Thursday-Sunday only. This is to allow us to more safely manage the numbers of customers in the building.

Q: Can we bring more guests who’ll wait outside?
A: No more than two guests per couple will be admitted to the premises – this includes the courtyard

Q: Can we live stream our ceremony?
A: If one of your witnesses wishes to stream the ceremony that is fine, they can also make use of the guest WI-FI. We have no equipment to do this for you.

Q: Will the registrars take photos of us?
A: Unfortunately not, we need to minimise contact between couples and our staff therefore we cannot allow our staff to handle your phones and cameras – we would suggest the use of a selfie stick

Q: Can we get married in the Gazebo as it’s outside?
A: Unfortunately not, the law requires that the bride, groom, registrars and witnesses are in the structure. The gazebo is not large enough to allow social distancing between these people.

Q: When can we have more guests?
A: Currently we have no date for increasing the number of guests allowed at Morden Park House.

Q: Are we still allowed to have a photographer?
A: While we cannot allow any additional people in the marriage room due to social distancing you are welcome to have a photographer take some professional shots outside the front of the house/ in the park after the ceremony. Please note the courtyard is not available to be used for photos.

Q: How will you ensure that we are safe to marry at Morden Park House?
A: We have implemented a strict one way system through the building and have limited the amount of people allowed in the building at a time. The registrars will also disinfect surfaces in between appointments and weddings.
