As part of Merton's safer streets and accident reduction programme, this junction has been identified for safer crossing points for pedestrians. It is therefore planned to introduce formal pedestrian crossings in both Croydon Rd and in Windmill Road, as part of the existing traffic signals. This will involve footway widening primarily in Windmill Rd with the installation of pedestrian islands and alterations to the carriageway lanes to accommodate these crossings

What happens next

February 2020                                                                                 

Works will be carried out in phases commencing on 9 March 2020, weather permitting, with completion expected by 31 May 2020. The majority of work will generally be carried out on Mondays to Fridays, between the hours 8am and 5pm, except for the carriageway re-surfacing, which will be done on 11 and 12 May between 9pm and 4am. Temporary road closures and traffic diversions including re-routing of local buses will be in operation.

*Please note that Windmill Road at its junction with Croydon Rd will be fully closed for the first phase of construction between 9 March and 10 April 2020. Signed diversions via the Three Kings Pond will be in place
