Arts therapies

Arts therapies are forms of psychotherapy which help people to work through difficult feelings that may not easily be put into words. It is not necessary for clients to have any previous experience or skill in art, drama, dance or music. It is the process of  creating and the quality of the therapeutic relationship which are of central importance.

Arts therapists work as part of the Merton Community Team for Adults with Learning Disabilities. We liaise with other members of the team, parents, carers and other professionals. We also offer workshops, talks and staff training. Therapists are trained to MA level and are registered with the Health Professionals Council.

'The Merton Arts Therapies team promotes individual expression through the art forms of Music, Drama, Art and Dance Movement. The Arts Therapies team strives to support adults with a learning disability to discover fulfilling and resourceful ways of being and interacting with the world. We aim to empower our service users’ development in personal growth, health and wellbeing'.

If you think one of the Arts Therapies would be good for you, but don't know which one, you can arrange a meeting with us and we will help you with this.

How much will it cost?

  • £21.10 per hour for Merton residents
  • £35 per hour for non-Merton residents
