The SLLP Licensing team is comprised of lawyers working in the Litigation and Compliance groups within the Dispute Resolution and Compliance team.

Our licensing lawyers have extensive experience of dealing with all aspects of licensing from acting as legal advisors to licensing sub-committees on a wide range of regulatory matters to advising on policy at Licensing Committee.

The team takes instructions from all 5 boroughs, with a lawyer assigned to each borough to provide consistency and continuity when acting as legal advisor to each of the licensing committees and sub-committees.

The majority of the work of the team arises from Licensing Act 2003 applications (such as premises licences, club premises certificates, variations, reviews, temporary event notices (TENs), and personal licences).

Members of the team also advise officers and senior managers within the boroughs in relation to a wide range of other applications before the councils' committees and issues that arise for officers connected with gambling, scrap metal, street trading, itinerant street trading, massage and special treatments, sexual establishments (including SEVs), sitting as legal advisors where required.

Where the decision of a licensing sub-committee is appealed, the Licensing team will defend the licensing authority's decision in the magistrates' courts, or higher appellate courts. The team has extensive knowledge and experience of dealing with high profile, sensitive and complex licensing appeals. It aims to bring cases to a swift and satisfactory conclusion.

The members of the team are friendly and very approachable, providing sound and practical advice.
