South Lodge Avenue waiting restriction - 26 November 2009

Merton council is proposing to introduce 16.5m of waiting restriction (Monday to Saturday 7am-7pm) along the south-western kerb line of South Lodge Avenue outside properties 22-26 South Lodge Avenue as shown on the linked plan. This is in response to a request received for a loading facility for the new Tesco.

The proposed restrictions will allow Tesco (soon to be opened at no 32) and other businesses to utilise this area for loading/unloading purposes. Normal parking will be permitted outside the proposed hours. This proposal is an alternative to a loading bay which would not permit parking at any time and can only be used for loading/unloading purposes.

What happens next

A Notice of the Council’s intentions to make the relevant Traffic Management Order (TMO) for the required restriction will be published in the local newspaper, London Gazette and posted on lamp columns in the vicinity. Representations for and against must be done in writing to the Head of Street Scene and Waste Management Division, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX by no later than 31 December 2009, quoting reference ES/SGE/SOUTH LODGE RESTRICTION.

Anyone who opposes the proposals must state the grounds upon which their objection is made. We also welcome letters in support. The Council is required to give weight to the nature and content of your representations and not necessarily the quantity. Your reasons are therefore important to us.

A copy of the draft TMO, a plan identifying the area affected by the proposal and the Council’s ‘Statement of Reasons’ can be inspected at the Library in South Lodge Avenue and Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey during the Council’s working hours, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.

At the conclusion of this statutory consultation a decision will be made on whether or not to proceed with the proposal. Please note that responses to any representations received will not be made until the final decision is made by the Cabinet Member.
