Ordinarily Available Provision refers to the setting based interventions and services that all Merton schools, early years and post 16 settings should be able to provide for children or young people, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), from within their own resources. By outlining a set of expectations within this Ordinarily Available Guidance, we are encouraging consistency between schools or settings across Merton. This guidance is intended to support schools or settings to reflect and develop their inclusive provision to benefit all the children or young people in the school or setting, including those with SEND.

This guidance covers four broad areas of need: communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, and sensory or physical needs. For each area, there are suggestions for strategies and interventions that can be used by all members of school staff and families alike, as well as examples of good practice from schools.
