We have been successful in a bid to Transport for London (TfL) to fund accessibility improvements across the Borough. To improve pedestrian safety and accessibility to the Morden First School in Green Lane it is proposed to introduce a zebra pedestrian crossing on the existing uncontrolled crossing in Central Road northeast of Green Lane. This will reduce the risk of personal injury and provide a safer environment for pedestrians, facilitating those attending the Morden First School.

To safely introduce the crossing, certain alterations to the road layout in the vicinity will be required. These include removal of the existing islands and bollards. This will ensure that suitable visibility is provided for pedestrians and approaching vehicles.

What happens next

A Notice of our intention to introduce the crossing will be published in the local newspaper and posted on lamp columns in the vicinity. Any comments must be put in writing to the Environment and Regeneration Department, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX by no later than 16 July 2015, quoting reference Central Road/Green Lane ZEBRA. A copy of the Notice and plan identifying the area affected by the proposal can be inspected at Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey during the Council's working hours, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
