Following a Merton Council’s successful bid to Transport for London (TfL) to fund accessibility improvements across the Borough, pedestrian safety and accessibility outside Harris Academy in Wide Way, Mitcham, has been identified as an area that could be improved.

A zebra crossing is proposed in Wide Way to improve the informal road crossing outside the main school entrance near its junction with Abbotts Road as shown on the plan. This will reduce the risk of personal injury to pedestrians, especially those attending this school.

Alterations to the road layout will be required, including the removal of the existing kerb on the school side to accommodate further widening of the footway at its junction with Abbots Road. This will maintain the existing level of on-street parking and ensure that visibility is provided for pedestrians and approaching vehicles.
