We have been successful in its bid to Transport for London (TfL) to fund accessibility improvements across the Borough. To improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along Durnsford Road it is proposed to introduce a zebra pedestrian crossing in Durnsford Road as shown on the plan overleaf. This will reduce the risk of personal injury and provide a safer crossing facility for pedestrians. To safely introduce the crossing, certain alterations to the road layout in the vicinity will be required. These include removal of the existing islands, parking pays and narrowing of the carriageway. This will ensure that suitable visibility is provided for pedestrians and approaching motorists.

What happens next

A Notice of the Council's intention to introduce the crossing will be published in the local newspaper and posted on lamp columns in the vicinity. All comments must be in writing by either e mailing trafficandhighways@merton.gov.uk or write to Environment & Regeneration Department, futureMerton, Merton Civic Centre, London road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX.
