Music is a powerful emotional medium which can affect us deeply. Elements of music such as rhythm, pitch, phrasing and timing are common to many aspects of human experience and relationships.

In music therapy, music is spontaneously created by the client and the therapist.

Percussion and other instruments are used as a means of expression and the therapist uses his or her musical and therapeutic skills to support and acknowledge the client's playing, and to foster meaningful interaction.

Through this process, aspects of the client's life experience, including areas of difficulty, come to the fore and can be explored and worked with.
