World Car Free Day 2022

22% of carbon emissions in Merton come from transport. This World Car Free Day Merton’s Climate Action Group is encouraging people to ditch their car and consider other ways to act on climate change.

Reducing our reliance on road transport will have a direct positive impact on local air quality, congestion, road safety and of course climate change.

To encourage different ways of moving around the borough and to inspire community led environmental action, this page provides detail on world car free day activities that you might like to attend this September.

Thursday 22 September Morden Civic Centre 10am-12 & Wimbledon Piazza 2-4pm

Come along to one of our town centre events in Morden (outside the Civic Centre), or at Wimbledon Piazza to:

Get a free bike check from Dr Bike, offering a check of tyres, brakes and cabling plus basic maintenance and advice. Or see how you could get involved with a community waste reduction, re-use and recycling initiative called ‘The Wheel’.

Meet officers from the Air Quality Team and find out:

  • How we monitor air quality.
  • What air quality is like in Merton.
  • How you can reduce your exposure to poor air quality and reduce your own emissions.
  • What ‘Air Quality Tools’ you can access.
  • What air quality community projects are active and how you can get involved.

Meet officers and hear from Merton’s Climate Action Group Volunteers to find out:

  • About Merton’s Climate Strategy and Action Plan
  • Why you should get involved in Merton’s Climate Action Group
  • Tell us about your ideas for climate action in Merton
  • Find out how and if you can upgrade the energy efficiency of your home through the Mayor of London’s Warmer Homes Programme
