Merton Council has produced a planning brief which will give guidance to the NHS in designing the new Nelson Hospital.
The brief includes guidance on how the new hospital should fit in with the neighbouring conservation areas and offers ideas for improvements to the surrounding public spaces.
The brief also sets out how the council's planning policies would be applied to the redevelopment of the Nelson site.
On 22nd January 2007, the Council's Cabinet formally formally adopted the brief as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) to Merton's Local Plan.
On 06 September 2012, planning permission was granted to redevelop Nelson Hospital, alongside a retirement home for 51 residents.
