Since 1997 the government has required councils to review and assess air quality in their area with reference to the pollutants specified in the National Air Quality Strategy. We declared the borough an Air Quality Management Area in 2003 as the review and assessment process showed that air quality in the borough was unlikely to meet the National Air Quality Objectives by the target dates.
Action plan
Councils who have declared themselves an Air Quality Management Area are required to produce an Air Quality Action Plan to outline the measures the authority intends to take in pursuit of the National Air Quality objectives in its area.
Annual status reports
An Annual Status Report is a statutory obligation on the Council. The report provides a summary of air quality monitoring data and actions undertaken under Air Quality Action Plan. The report is submitted annually to the Greater London Authority for their approval.
Note: the reports include data for the year before their date, real-time data is available on the London Air website.
