This is an advanced course designed for yachtsmen and women who are wanting to gain their yachtmaster qualification. They should have considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation and want to tweak their skippering techniques as to take the yachtmaster exam at the end of the 4 day course. The 5 day course is held either out of either Gibraltar or Lanzarote as a residential sailing trip with the 6 hour (per candidate) exam held at the end of the week. Like the coastal skipper course, this course consists of skippering passages in a variety of situations. Each Candidate will skipper more challenging passages and learn about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations.

Boat handling should be up to coastal Skipper level and candidates should have their yachtmaster theory and VHF licence.

Pre requisites

  • Have your RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course or sufficient evidence that you are up to the standard
  • Yachtmaster theory shore base course
  • 17 years of age
  • VHF Licence
