Local Dialogue attended the Morden Community Forum on Wednesday 14 October 2009 and gave a presentation of the Morden Park vision consultation findings.

Local Dialogue will work to gather opinions from as many people as possible by going to existing events. The company will also be working with local schools to establish the needs of children. To ensure the best is made of the consultation the council will be setting firm parameters.
What are the projects parameters?
The council wants to ensure an open and independent engagement process. There are parameters on what is possible, and these must be well understood and transparent to participants. The parameters include:
- The grant from Sport England with which the council acquired part of the site requiring it to be used for sports and outdoor recreation purpose.
- Financial constraints which mean that no council subsidy is available; proposals must be self financing or have a tested and viable route to funding from elsewhere.
What do we want the project to achieve?
- A clear vision and plan for the whole of Morden Park.
- Identify a preferred mix of outdoor sport, recreation and leisure offer for Morden Park.
- Explore and identify a preferred site for a new leisure centre and pool within Morden Park in the event that finance becomes available in the future to replace the existing leisure centre.
- Identify a preferred mix of leisure facilities to be accommodated in any new future leisure centre.
- Identify how £40,000 Play-Builders funding should be allocated and to which areas of the park.
- Identify preferred locations for natural play facilities (potentially Lower Morden Lane / Hillcross Avenue / Link Avenue).
- Identify enhancements in the vicinity of the Morden Park House registry office.
- Establish dialogue with Merton College to determine how the college, and its future plans relate to Morden Park.
- Consider the future use and location of the bandstand.
- Identify options for providing a hay meadow in the park.
- Identify locations for a new pond to provide new habitat for crested newts.
- Identify preferred car parking options and locations associated with new facilities such as Goals and a new leisure centre.
- Identify any access issues and provide options to improve access into and within the park including gateways, internal and external boundary fencing and how this impacts on safety and events such as fireworks night.
- Consider additional trees on the Hillcross boundary of the park; determine whether this buffer zone would offset the impact on residents from additional sports and recreation in the park.
- Consider the archaeological importance of the park, the conservation area designation and the Heritage Management Plan for the park.
- Consider development of renewable energy resources in the park including scope for wind turbines and district heat and power infrastructure (linked to the leisure centre, Registry Office and College).
