Your payment must reach us by the first of the month. Usually your payments are split over 10 months starting in April each year to January the next year, unless you pay in full in April.

It’s important you let us know if you have problems paying council tax. If we’re not able to collect the money you owe, we could send bailiffs to your home to recover the debt.

You can pay your council tax:

  • by Direct Debit
  • online by debit or credit card
  • online through your bank
  • by calling our automated payments line
  • in person at PayPoint outlets or the Post Office
  • by post

Direct Debit

Make sure you never miss a payment by setting up a Direct Debit. We take payments on the first day of each month.

To set up one up, call us or fill in and return our Direct Debit instruction form.

In person

If you pay in person at a PayPoint, Post Office or a bank, take your council tax bill with you. Unfortunately, they can’t accept bills sent to you by email as the barcode isn’t valid.

At the Post Office

You can pay by cash, cheque or debit card at the Post Office. Make cheques payable to ‘Post Office Counters’. It takes up to seven working days for payments to reach us. Make sure you allow enough time.
