This is where you are claiming Housing Benefit or Council Tax support and you have had a change in your income or your partner's income.

 

Step 1 - Report the change

If you have already registered for our online My Tax and Benefits service you can log in and report your change of circumstances there.

If you are not registered, contact Merton Benefits Service straight away by phone, email or fax to tell us about the change. If you email or fax us please make sure you tell us:

  • the date it happened;
  • the details of the change, for example:
    • employers name and address and salary, if you or anyone in your household has started work or changed employer;
    • the name and amount of any new benefit if you or anyone in your household has moved from one DWP benefit to another;
    • the reason an income related benefit has stopped;
  • whether you want to claim further HB or CTS under your new circumstances.

Telling us quickly will ensure you are not overpaid HB or CTS.

You may also post a letter to us but a letter will take longer to reach us and you may be overpaid whilst it is on its way to us.

 

Step 2 - notify us in writing and claim further benefit

What you do depends on whether you want to claim HB or CTS under your new income. Please select one of the options below:

  • You want to claim further HB or CTS
  • You do not want to claim further HB or CTS

Once you have told us about the change in Step 1, please select one of the following to find out what you need to do next:

  • You were getting one of the following benefits and this has now stopped.
    • Income Support
    • Income based Jobseeker's allowance
    • income related Employment and Support Allowance
    • Guarantee Pension Credit
  • You or your partner has started work or changed employer
  • You have another income that has changed.

You were getting one of the benefits listed above and this has now stopped.

Please go to our Forms page to download and print our changes to income form. Fill it in and send it to us with any proof we have asked for. You can also upload proof of the change.

If you phoned* us to tell us about the change in income you should email or fax us to tell us:

  • what the change in income is,
  • the date it happened and
  • that you do not want to claim further HB or CTS.

* If you have already emailed or faxed the details in Step 1 you do not need to do this again.
