Translating and interpreting services

We want to make sure you can get information about our services in a way that you understand.

Merton Translation Service provides these services:

  • advice and guidance
  • face-to-face interpreting (including British Sign Language)
  • translating written documents
  • alternative formats (including large print, Braille, audiotape and electronic format)
  • telephone interpreting

Writing to the council

We can send you letters in your preferred language or specified format and you can reply to them in the same way. Ask the council officer you are dealing with to send you letters in the format you want.

Tamil drop-in sessions

On the third Tuesdays of each month, between 9 am and 1 pm, a Tamil speaking interpreter is available in Merton Link at the Civic Centre. They are available to assist Tamil residents speak with Council officers and help with filling in forms and queries. No appointments are necessary and customers are seen on a first come first served basis.

Polish Drop In Sessions

On the third Wednesdays of each month, between 9 am and 1 pm, a Polish speaking interpreter is available in Merton Link at the Civic Centre. They are available to assist Polish residents speak with Council officers and help with filling in forms and queries. No appointments are necessary and customers are seen on a first come first served basis.

Please note that our interpreters will work outside office hours and weekends.
