Event Description
Join the members of our friendly art society on Tuesday 8th October, at Martin Way Methodist Church, for a watercolour demonstration by well known artist Geoff Hunt who will paint a boatyard for us on this occasion.
Geoff Hunt is probably today's finest painter of the fighting sail of the 18th and 19th centuries and is a world-renowned expert on the ship construction and naval history of the period, thanks to the minutely-detailed research he undertakes for each of his paintings. Geoff has special interest and expertise in the ships and career of Nelson.
Born in 1948, Geoff Hunt studied at Kingston and Epsom Schools of Art from 1966-70, becoming a freelance artist and designer after working two years in advertising. He served as Art Editor of the journal WARSHIP from 1977-79, and has designed many books on marine subjects for Conway Maritime Press. He became a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1989 and was elected President in 2003. He is also a member of the Wapping Group, who take their subjects from the River Thames, painting en plein air.
