Combat Stress 100
In the run up to Remembrance Day, Merton Heritage Centre is staging an event to mark the centenary of Combat Stress, the oldest British military mental health charity.
The programme will include heritage displays, historic objects and an introduction to the Combat Stress 100 project.
Film footage from the London Screen Archives will highlight the true impact of combat on First World War troops and the foundation of support charities.
The key part of the event is the UK premiere of a film produced by and with veterans of conflict from Northern Ireland and the Falklands, to Bosnia, the Gulf Wars and Afghanistan. This captures the compelling and heartrending stories of veterans - from the camaraderie of basic training and front line fighting, to developing PTSD and efforts to rebuild their lives.
Please note; The screening is for over 16s. It includes some upsetting descriptions of combat and trauma-related events and details the realities of living with serious mental health issues.
