Film Festival: Challenging Assumptions - Different views of Dementia

A free pop-up film festival in association with Film Merton, Alzheimer's Society, Merton Council and Merton Arts Space. May 23rd, 7.00pm, Wimbledon Library (Arts Space) ‘Robot & Frank’ (2012), rated 12, 1hr 29. In the near future, Frank is a retired cat-burglar living alone while his successful son, Hunter, tries to care for him from afar. Finally, Hunter gets him a robot caretaker, but Frank soon learns that it is as useful as a burglary aide. As Frank tries to restart his old profession, the uncomfortable realities of a changing world and his worsening dementia threaten to take beyond what any reboot can do for him. May 24th, 7.00pm, Wimbledon Library (Arts Space) ‘Poetry’, (2010) rated 12, 2hr 29. South Korean drama from acclaimed director Chang-dong Lee. The story of a suburban woman in her 60's who begins to develop an interest in poetry while struggling to come to terms with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease and coping with the aftermath of the actions of her irresponsible grandson.
