Information and guidance to support primary school Headteachers and Foundation Stage Practitioners in the process of completing the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile for children in their care.
The Early Year Foundation Stage Profile
Schools and early years settings have to follow a structure of learning, development and care for children from birth to five years old. This is called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and it enables children to learn through a range of activities.
The EYFS ensures that children aged 0-5 will be getting a consistent approach to their play, learning and development, wherever they are being cared for, and that children will be able to achieve. The EYFS covers a number of different areas of learning and development.
The EYFS Profile is a way of assessing and recording a child's level of ability and progress as they go though the EYFS. The profile is created through making observations about each child and recording each stage as they meet it.
Moderation examines EYFS Profiles to make sure all children's developments and achievements are measured in the same way, making them consistent across the London Borough of Merton. This is important because when a child starts in Year One at primary school, their profile will be used to help their teachers plan their learning.
All childcare providers including nursery and reception classes in schools take part in moderation. This web page contains the information they may need.
