Trading from a vehicle used for ice cream trading is exempt from street trading legislation in London under certain conditions:

  • Traders must not remain stationary in any location for longer than 15 minutes
  • If the vehicle is parked with the engine switched off, the goods or service will still be regarded as being on offer. The 15 minutes window begins as soon as the trader arrives at the location, e.g. vans should not be parked outside schools for a period of time awaiting the end of the school day.
  • Vehicles should be parked in accordance with any road traffic or parking regulations in place at the location.
  • It is still a requirement to register as a food business in the borough before commencing any type of trading. This can be done through our Environmental Health Team. Please see Registration of Food Businesses for full information on how to proceed with your registration.

It is an offence to trade on the street outside of these guidelines.

Please contact this office for more information regarding ice cream trading.
