This page displays information on the training provision for Merton staff by the Corporate Safety Services team and instructions on how to book onto the courses.

These documents have been published here so they can be accessed by staff and contractors who do not have access to our corporate intranet.

General Health and Safety Awareness

The General Health and Safety Awareness course is now the same for managers and other staff and is mandatory for all new staff. The course aims to increase awareness of health and safety legislation, identify the principal requirements of that legislation and to investigate the measures available to address those requirements.

Classroom-based courses

The below courses are taught in a classroom environment by a member of the Safety Services team. All courses run from 9:30am to approximately 13:00pm, tea and coffee is also provided during the break:

  • Asbestos Awareness - This course aims to raise delegates' awareness of the hazards of asbestos, an understanding of the duty to manage and the action to take should asbestos be suspected or identified.
  • Introduction to Risk Assessment – The course aims to provide staff with an understanding of the purpose of risk assessment and the requirements of making a suitable and sufficient risk assessment.
  • Safe Manual Handling - This will raise your awareness of the importance of using correct manual handling techniques, and the risks of injury associated with lifting and handling.
