Licensing your venue

The application procedure for a licence is very straightforward and advice is available throughout the process. We are more than happy to visit your venue to do a free pre-inspection to check that it is suitable and that all your questions are answered before submitting your application.

The fee for a licence is £600 for three years and will be included on the list of venues available for civil ceremonies in the London Borough of Merton for that period of time. Once we have received your application it will take approximately six weeks to process.

Please download the Application to Licence a Venue for Marriage and Civil Partnership and with:

  • Two plans of the premises which clearly mark the room(s) to be used for marriage ceremonies, including exits and position of fire appliances
  • The fee of £600 (cheques should be made payable to “London Borough of Merton”). Please note that this is not refundable if your premises are not approved.
  • Copies of the current fire risk assessment and any licences held.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday 9.00am - 4.30pm, except for the third Thursday of every month when the office closes at 12.30pm.

The office will be closing at 2.00pm on Thursday 1st March 2018

Saturday and Sunday some services are available by appointment only.
