Libraries

Merton has some of the best libraries in the country, and across April they’ll be host to exhibitions and art works that are free for the community.

Our libraries will be running special craft sessions across April and May, making birthday bunting and Merton at 60 badges.

Heritage

We are looking back on the history of Merton and celebrating how it all began. Merton Heritage Centre we will be featuring special exhibitions, talks and events on how Merton became the borough we know it as today:

Merton at 60: Then and Now

To mark the borough's 60th anniversary, this exhibition features images of 1960s Merton, alongside Mitcham Camera Club photographs of the same locations pictured in 2025.

We are Merton at 60: improvements to last

Celebrations aren’t the only way we’re marking Merton at 60, we’re also upgrading and creating spaces within the borough for everyone to enjoy.

Morden Park Bandstand

Our teams are hard at work upgrading the bandstand in Morden Park, so it can function as a stage at We Are Merton Festival, and be enjoyed and used by community groups for years to come.

Pocket Parks

We’re also preparing to create a new pocket park – a mini area of public green space on Meopham Road, in Mitcham and we will invite you to have your say on other locations for a new network of pocket parks across the borough, building the foundations of an ongoing programme. Plus we’ll be planting flowers as part of our community wildflower programme.
