This year, our wonderful, unique borough turns 60 years old.
To honour this milestone and shine a light on our brilliant communities, we’re curating ‘We Are Merton at 60’ - a five-week programme of events, culture and celebration between April 1 and early May.
The programme includes:
seven, community-created, town centre parties
borough-wide purple wildflower and lavender planting
a schools’ competition and non-uniform day
a We Are Merton Big Conversation to hear from our residents
We’re also using the celebrations as an opportunity to spring clean our borough; brighten up our town centres; start installing some planned green infrastructure projects, such as pocket parks – and much more!
‘We Are Merton at 60’ aims to make people even prouder of the place they call home - because there is so much to be proud of in Merton!
It’s also a fantastic opportunity to help put Merton on the map: as a destination for people to visit and discover; as a place where organisations want to invest; and as a place where people choose to come to make a life, raise a family or do business.
We Are Merton at 60 also marks the start of a three-year programme of investment in culture across the borough thanks to funding secured from the Mayor of London - known as the Cultural Impact Award - and matched by the council. Watch this space for further exciting announcements.
