We will be introducing kerb separated stepped cycle tracks on Merton High Street between the junction of Haydon's Road and the bus garage. The kerbs will have an upstand between 50mm-75mm helping to provide greater protection, safety and comfort for cyclists. Vehicles are able to mount the stepped track if required in order to make way for emergency vehicles and the level changes between the footway and carriageway helps distinguish the cycle lane from the footway and carriageway.
Examples of stepped cycle tracks within Merton can be found at Holborn Way, Mitcham and London Road at the Mitcham Bridge.
Works are currently in progress and are expected to be completed in June 2023.
