Cabinet Member Approval – 22 August 2018

Following the statutory consultation that was carried out between 21 June and 13 July 2018, to introduce a localised 20mph speed limit in Wimbledon Village, the Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Housing and Transport, has approved its implementation. The 20mph speed limit will apply to Church Road, High Street (between the War memorial and its junctions with Ridgway / Wimbledon Hill Rd / Belvedere Grove); Courthope Rd; Walnut Tree Cotts; Belvedere Square; Old House Close; Lancaster Road (between Church Rd and Lancaster Rd); Haygarth Place and Allington Close
The Traffic management Order will be advertised on 6th September 2018 and implementation will follow shortly after.

The Merton (20 mph speed limit) (no. *) traffic order 201*

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the London Borough of Merton propose to make the above mentioned Order under sections 84 and 124 of, and Part IV of Schedule 9 to, the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and all other enabling powers. 

The general effect of the Order would be to:-

  • impose a 20 MPH speed limit in the roads or lengths of roads specified in the Schedule to this notice;
  • revoke the Merton (20 MPH Speed Limit) (No. 9) Traffic Order 2017 and re-apply its provisions.
  • A copy of the proposed Order and other documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order, including plans which indicate the lengths of roads to which the Order relates can be inspected during the Council's normal office hours on Mondays to Fridays inclusive at Merton Link, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey or at the Wimbledon Library, 35A Wimbledon Hill Road, Wimbledon SW19 7NB.
  • Any person desiring to make representations or to object to the proposed Order should send a statement in writing of their representations or objections and the grounds thereof, to the Environment and Regeneration Department, Merton Civic Centre, London Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 5DX or alternatively by email to trafficandhighways@merton.gov.uk quoting the reference ES/VILLAGE20MPH/2 no later than 13 July 2018.
