Filming in Merton

Merton offers a diverse range of excellent locations; from the picturesque Wimbledon Village and Mitcham Cricket Green to the sprawling Phipps Bridge and High Path Estates. We have a great selection of council-owned properties and beautiful parks that makes Merton an ideal borough to film in.

Types of productionsThe Bill

Productions range from feature films, commercials, TV documentaries and dramas including the hit TV show The Bill which is produced and directed by Talkback Thames from their studios in Merton.

The Bill

Merton is one of the most film friendly Boroughs in London. I am always amazed with the huge varied selection of locations you can find in Merton and with production budgets getting tighter it is one of the more affordable areas in London.

Filming tariffs

There is no charge for filming on streets but we do charge for filming in parks and open spaces, and other council owned properties. The filming tariffs for Merton are detailed in the table below.

Filming Activity Filming Tariff

Commercial shoots and feature films

Up to £1,200 for a day and £700 for a half day

TV dramas and medium budget films

Up to £750 for a day and £450 for a half day

TV documentaries and low budget films

Up to £500 for a day and £300 for a half day

Student filming

Only charge would be for additional costs associated with the shoot. Overtime, equipment hire etc.
Time spent on site visits, liaising with internal departments negotiating fees and location Admin fee of £50 per hour (first hour free)

Unit base parking - depended upon the size of the production

For large scale feature films we charge £750 per day

For TV dramas £500 per day

Parking dispensations and waivers

Parking requires four working days notice for all parking dispensations and waivers. Charges can vary according to location, in general a bay suspension costs £42 per day and a yellow line dispensation costs £13.20 per day. Public liability insurance and code of practice

For all filming (but not for stills photography) we must see a copy of the production companies public liability insurance certificate. This must have a minimum indemnity of £5 million. We expect everyone filming in Merton to abide by the Film London Code of Practice

How to apply

If you are interested in filming in the borough, please fill out a Filming and photography application form and fax or email a copy of the Public liability insurance

Filming License

Once we have received your application, and a copy of your public liability insurance, we will issue you with a license for filming in the borough. We aim to issue the license within 48 hours of receiving the initial filming application
