The Hill Singers is a long established chamber choir of around 25 voices, that performs three concerts a year. Music performed ranges from 16th century motets, through to Bach, Handel, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Vaughan Williams, Britten and John Tavener. Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra is now in its 70th year and enjoys a very high reputation for musical excellence. Based in Wimbledon, they rehearse on Sunday afternoons during term time, perform three concerts a year in some of the best concert halls in London and the South-East, and work with leading professional musicians. Stoneleigh also tour regularly in Europe. Totalling over 100 players aged 8 to 18, Stoneleigh comprises two orchestras: the Main Orchestra aimed at players who are the equivalent of grade 6/7 and above, and the Training Orchestra for musicians who are at least grade 4. Auditions for new players are held in January, April and September.

The Academy is well known in Merton and beyond for its thrilling yet stylish performances of choral music and chamber operas. The choir consists of gifted amateur singers. The West Barnes Singers are a choir of approximately 60 voices that performs a regular season of concerts in Merton. Their repertoire ranges from early music through Mozart, Handel, Haydn, Schubert, Vivaldi, Rachmaninov to jazz and 20-21st century music. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings at Holy Cross Church, Motspur Park, Adela Avenue.
WCTT Young Actors Company is free to join and applications are welcome from all parts of the community. This year-round programme provides high quality theatre experiences and training for all young people living or attending school in Merton aged 11 – 18 who are interested in drama either as a hobby or a career.
Throughout the year members are able to participate in a variety of skills based workshops, perform in a full-scale production in New Wimbledon Studio theatre and take part in a professional showcase in July. Entry to the company is by audition but dedication and enthusiasm are valued as highly as is acting ability. Auditions for YAC are held every September.

Formed in its current guise in the early months of World War I, this auditioned choir has established a fine reputation for putting on concert performances of a professional standard in major venues in and around London. In addition to its own concerts it is often invited to participate in other national events that, in recent years, have included the Royal British Legion’s annual Festival of Remembrance, recordings of Songs of Praise for BBC TV, singing national anthems for Rugby League events at Wembley Stadium, Mass in St Peter’s Basilica, Vatican City, and recording the 1998 World Cup theme for BBC TV.

The Wimbledon Symphony orchestra was founded in 1961 giving at least four concerts a year. The conductor is Robert Browning. It has a reputation for adventurous programmes with distinguished soloists, extending over the whole range from Mozart to Stravinsky and beyond. Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays at 7.30 p.m. in Bishop Gilpin School, Lake Road. Wind vacancies are limited, but competent string players are always welcome.
