Christmas treeChristmas tree recycling

If you have a real Christmas tree there are a number of ways you can recycle it after Christmas.

Reuse and recycling centre

You can also take your Christmas tree to the Reuse and Recycling Centre at Garth Road and place them in the green waste for composting.

Household collections

We will collect and compost real trees for free between 5 and 25 January 2015. Please remove the decorations and place your tree at the front of your property from 6am, where it can be clearly seen from the road, but not on the pavement. If your tree has not been collected by the 26 January please complete the missed collection form.

The trees we collect are either composted or turned into chippings which will be used as a mulch to spread on the flower beds. The mulch will suppress weed growth and help the soil to retain moisture.

Reduce waste: buy a tree with roots

We encourage residents to buy Christmas trees with roots rather than cut trees, as this allows them to be replanted. You could replant them in a tub or in your garden to reuse each year. This is extremely beneficial for the environment, as the tree will absorb carbon dioxide while growing throughout the year.
