Merton is privileged to be the site for the first purpose-built intergenerational centre in the UK. The new Acacia Intergenerational Centre opened at Eastfields, Mitcham in February 2010. This exciting new building will be the thriving centre of intergeneratonial activity across the whole borough.
Intergenerational activity brings together people of different ages – children, young people, adults and older adults - in positive, planned activities designed to bridge gaps between generations.
It is an approach which can provide new ways of working to address a great many issues, e.g. health, learning, skills exchange, community safety and fear of crime, resolving disputes, cultural activity and heritage. For a fuller definition please see link below
