The Merton Compact is a partnership agreement between local Public Bodies and the Voluntary and Community Sector to improve their relationships and provide a framework within which the sectors can understand what to expect from each other
The Merton Compact subscribes to the principles of the National Compact, setting out principes and values of the partnership and aims to achieve a Compact way of working by helping us:
The Compact Board reports directly to the Merton Partnership Executive Board and is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Merton Compact. The Board's membership is made up of local representatives from the Voluntary and Community Sector and Public Bodies including; Merton Council, Sutton and Merton PCT, the Police, the Fire Brigade, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and Merton College.
If you would like further information about the Compact Board membership or would like to contact a member of the Compact Board, please contact the Third Sector Co-ordinator whose details are on the bottom of this page.
The Merton Compact is nationally recognised as an excellent example of a local compact and has won a number of awards. To view our awards and the local successes that have resulting from our Compact way of working please see the Compact Award Cabinet
Compact Week is an annual event which provides opportunities to showcase the Merton Compact and raise awareness regarding best practice and new developments, it also encourages debate across the third sector and throughout all levels of government. Compact Week presents valuable opportunities to make the Compact work better in Merton.
On November 4th the Mayor will attend an event to celebrate National Compact Week at the New Learning Resource in St Marks Family Centre in Mitcham. This resource is the result of a joint bid between Merton Adult Education and the Voluntary Sector to the Learning and Skills Council. It is a good example of what can be achieved through a 'Compact Way of working,' the public and voluntary sectors working together.
