Event Description
Merton Art Society 14th May, Penny Smith mixed media demo.

On 14th May our guest artist will be Penny Smith who will demonstrate and explain her use of mixed media in her paintings.

Penny was born in Sri Lanka and spent her childhood in India - it was India that inspired Penny's use of colour in her paintings and gave her the idea of applying gold leaf to her work to create life and light. Penny studied art in Cornwall and then at the Central School of Art in London. She has exhibited in Cornwall, Italy and London.

Penny says ‘’I will bring a large canvas and put together 2 stages, first collage and then the beginning of the painting. I will bring samples of the papers I use - plus what I use to apply the paper and also seal the paper. I will also bring paintings that I have previously created as samples plus items I have my work printed on to show you how you can make use of your work.’’ She will also be using gold leaf.

Bring a note book to record Penny’s tips and feel free to ask questions. This should be a very interesting and informative session.

Guests are very welcome to attend for £6 on the door, rising to £8 after two visits. But why not take out annual membership for £35 and enjoy our varied monthly programme of demos, talks and workshops for only £2 per visit. Meetings are held at Martin Way Methodist Church, SW20 9JZ, on the second Tuesday of each month, except January when we take a break.
