Sign up to the London Healthy Workplace Charter

As a council, Merton is actively supporting local businesses in improving the health of all employees via the London Healthy Workplace Charter. It’s a capital-wide scheme designed to encourage employers to adopt healthy business practices that will benefit both your staff and your bottom line in practical, achievable ways.

Studies show that healthier workers make for a more motivated, productive workforce with lower levels of absenteeism and higher levels of loyalty and achievement. So encouraging your staff to adopt healthier working practices, and taking simple, low- or zero-cost steps to ensure their wellbeing needs are addressed is an easy way to see benefits on the balance sheet.

The London Healthy Workplace Charter is a framework coordinated by the Greater London Authority, promoting healthy business practices among employers in boroughs across the capital, including Merton.

Merton Borough Council is committed to backing local businesses of all sizes reach London Healthy Workplace Charter accreditation, partnering with Merton Chamber of Commerce [link to] to offer practical information, support and assistance on an ongoing basis. We are also developing a range of events, materials and motivational opportunities to help reinforce your staff’s interest in adopting healthy living practices that will make them even more valuable to you as a workforce.

Addressing common issues such as stress, sick leave, activity levels and healthier catering options are simple ways in which your company can work towards gaining accreditation under the Charter, which has three levels to work towards: Commitment, Achievement and Excellence.

Securing the Charter Mark is an opportunity to boost your company’s productivity, make it more appealing to applicants and clients, and raise its profile via PR and marketing opportunities.

We are offering free advice and assistance on getting involved in the London Healthy Workplace Charter campaign.
