There are various scams where residents are being asked by bogus callers to provide bank details or parts of their sixteen digit bank or credit card numbers. The bogus callers will say that they are calling about council tax or banding reductions.
We have also had reports from another council that bogus callers are contacting customers telling them that they are entitled to a refund. The customer is then given a personal identity number and a phone number to call to claim their refund. The bogus callers are asking for bank account numbers.
Our staff will never phone you to ask you to provide your bank or card details. We will always write if we need to check any of these details.
If you receive a call or visit like this please do not give the caller your details. You can contact us to check if the caller is genuine or not.
